Why the name "Bearclaw"?

Bear has always been a nickname of mine. I was Sarah Bear-a as a kid. Later it was shortened to Bear. And in the pastry world, Bearclaw was the natural evolution. At the time the granola started taking off, everyone in the kitchen called me Bearclaw, so I had no choice even though I knew I was setting myself up for a lifetime of explaining that we don't make almond paste-filled pastries.

Are your products organic?

We try to use as many organic ingredients as we can, like oats, rye flakes, maple syrup, agave syrup, coconut sugar, buckwheat groats, coconut oil, etc. We're always weighing the cost of incorporating more organic ingredients while staying true to our beloved recipes. However, we solidly value local honey over organic, which isn’t produced in the United States. We get some of the best wildflower honey in the world from Chaparral Mountain Honey Co. of Altadena, just a few miles away.

Is your granola gluten free?

While oats are naturally gluten free, they are often processed in facilities where wheat is present, so there may be cross contamination in the oats we use. We also occasionally bake with flour in our kitchen, so we don’t make any gluten free claims. We have a few grain-free products, and the labels clearly state that they’re processed in a kitchen where wheat may be present.

What is single-origin maple syrup?

Most commercial maple syrup is made up of a combination of syrups from several sources that have been mixed together and can vary in flavor and quality. The extraordinary organic Grade A Dark Robust maple syrup that we bake with is derived purely from the maple trees at Brookfield Maple Products, a family-owned farm in northern Pennsylvania.

What is the shelf life?

The shelf life of all our products is six months. If you need more time (for some crazy reason), they all freeze beautifully and are actually a fun treat straight out of the freezer.

Are your bags recyclable?

Yes!

Do you have a return policy?

We stand by all of our products. If you’re not satisfied with your order for any reason, contact us within 15 days of receipt and we will either replace the unsatisfactory products or give you a refund.

I never received my order. What should I do?

Once an order has shipped, you’ll receive a shipping email with tracking information. If the tracking info says “delivered,” we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Do you sell wholesale?

Yes! We got our start selling granola to coffee shops around Los Angeles, and our wholesale accounts are very dear to our hearts. Please visit our Wholesale page for more info. We’d love to work with you!
